SnappingTurtle is built on a minimal data philosophy. We collect only what is necessary to fulfill your order. We do not sell your data. We do not build user profiles. We do not run advertising.
Introduction
SnappingTurtle ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how it is used when you use SnappingTurtle's website at snappingturtle.app or our mobile application.
How Recipient Data Actually Works
This is the most important thing to understand about how SnappingTurtle is built. If you use our website to send a package, the recipient's name and address are used only to build the shipping request sent to our print partner, Prodigi — they are never written to our own database at all. If you use our mobile app, your address book is stored locally on your own device, protected by your PIN, and is likewise never stored on our servers except transiently at the moment you actually send an order.
Information You Provide
- Recipient details — name and delivery address, entered by you at the time of sending (or drawn from your own on-device address book, if using the app). Used only to build the Prodigi shipping request. Not stored in our database.
- Personal messages — composed by you to accompany your photo send. Stored temporarily for order processing and deleted within 30 days of payment. This is not a private messaging service — your message is printed on a physical card, and is not covered by the privacy protections described elsewhere in this policy.
- Payment information — processed securely through Stripe. We never see or store your full card number. Stripe returns a masked sender identifier derived from your cardholder name and transaction ID, which we store for order management and dispute resolution (e.g., "Jordan K. (#3A4F)").
- Email address — optionally provided at checkout. Used only to confirm your order, if provided.
Information Collected Automatically
- Photographs — selected by you from your device. Transmitted to our image host Cloudinary for temporary storage, then to Prodigi for fulfillment. All photo assets are permanently deleted from Cloudinary within 30 days of the date of payment.
- Push notification token (mobile app only) — generated by your device when you grant notification permission. Stored to notify you of order status changes. This does not apply to the website, which has no equivalent capability.
- Masked sender identifier — a privacy-preserving identifier derived from your cardholder first name, last initial, and the last 4 characters of your payment transaction ID. Stored in our order database for support and dispute resolution purposes.
- Content moderation data — photographs you select are submitted to Google Cloud Vision's SafeSearch feature for automated content moderation before printing, on both the app and the website. Google processes this data according to their own privacy policy.
How We Use Your Information
- To process and fulfill your photo mail orders through our print partner Prodigi
- To process payments and calculate applicable tax through Stripe
- To screen photographs for prohibited content via Google Cloud Vision
- To notify you of order status changes, if you use the mobile app and grant notification permission
- To maintain minimal order records for support and dispute resolution
- To improve and maintain the service
How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with the service providers necessary to deliver the service:
- Prodigi — print and mail fulfillment. Receives the recipient address and photo files solely to print and ship your order.
- Stripe — payment processing and tax calculation. Stripe's own privacy policy governs their handling of payment data.
- Cloudinary — temporary image hosting. Files are deleted within 30 days of payment.
- Google Cloud Vision — content moderation. Receives photo data for SafeSearch screening before printing.
We may disclose your information if required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of SnappingTurtle, our users, or the public.
Data Storage and Retention
- Recipient names and addresses — never stored in our database. Used transiently to build the Prodigi shipping request only, or stored locally on your own device if you use the mobile app's address book.
- Photo assets — deleted from Cloudinary within 30 days of the date of payment. One reprint is permitted per order within this window, where warranted. After deletion, reprints are not possible.
- Order records — retained for legal compliance, damage claim processing, and dispute resolution. Records contain an order reference, masked sender identifier, message, and order status — not the recipient's name or address.
- Push tokens (mobile app only) — retained until the order is complete or the record is archived.
Your Address Book Security (Mobile App)
If you use the mobile app, your address book is stored exclusively on your device and is protected by a 4-digit PIN secured with SHA-256 hashing, optional Face ID or Touch ID biometric authentication, automatic lock when the app is minimized, and rate limiting with lockout after failed attempts. If you forget your PIN and do not have biometrics enabled, there is no way to recover it — you would need to delete and reinstall the app, which permanently clears your address book.
Children's Privacy
SnappingTurtle is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe a minor has used our service please contact us immediately.
Your Rights
You have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of your personal information. To exercise these rights please contact us at privacy@snappingturtle.app. We will respond within 30 days.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting a notice in the app or on our website. Your continued use of SnappingTurtle after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
